Message from the 2026 President - April 2026
Welcome! Bienvenue!
I would like to introduce myself as the incoming LTAT President, Kahlia Hodge.
I started my teaching career in London before returning to Tasmania to work between the Catholic and Government systems. Over time, my roles have shifted from a supply/relief teacher to a primary school teacher, high school teacher, support teacher and senior secondary teacher. Within these roles I have also had opportunities to teach French.
I completed my teacher training at the University of Tasmania in 2013 with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) where I took electives in French and Languages Teaching. I also have my Professional Honours in Inclusive Education and a Graduate Certificate in Psychology.
Previously, I have been in the role of President for our North-West branch 2024-2025 in which Dylan Keegan has now taken the reins. I also assisted with the creation of a Tasmanian branch of FATFA for Tasmania, and currently hold the role of secretary for the Tasmanian Association of French Teachers (TAFT).
I would like to thank Immediate Past President Kelsey Cooper for her mentoring and for acquainting me with the formerly MLTAT community when I found myself starting a French program from scratch. Without Kelsey and Anita Wood's assistance I wouldn't be here today. I would also like to thank outgoing Treasurer, Glenn Brumy and semi-retiring Secretary Vicki Brumby for their commitment over the years.
I also extend gratitude to all our LTAT committee and all the hard work they put in to ensure the support of languages teachers in Tasmania including:Branch presidents Dylan Keegan and Suzette Holmes; Single Language Associations PERGUBIT, TAFT, JATNET, CLTAT, and Netzwerk; and UTAS representation Andy Bown.
As a team, we are stronger together.
We are aware of the ongoing issues faced by language educators in all settings. In 2026, we will be working closely with stakeholders to promote change and support the futures of languages in Tasmania.
I look forward to meeting you all at our upcoming conference on August 22nd at the Door of Hope, Launceston.
Bien cordialement,
Kahlia Hodge
